ARTIST STATEMENT:
I am interested in the thin line, the tension, between balance and chaos and the many ways in which they dance on the edge of becoming the other. In my current work I explore the elements of nature through the medium of water-based woodblock prints (mokuhanga), giving voice to immediate environmental concerns. Growing and flowing, our woodlands and waterways are essential mirrors of our own humanity. The interdependence and relationships between trees and water speak to me about the tenacity of life itself. As an artist, I see it as my job, my responsibility, to explore these themes and be guided by nature’s voice.
